“Why do you love me?” she asked him with an amused smile.
He started listing the reasons, and she felt excited thinking about all the things that impressed him. Everyone loves compliments.
Years passed, and now she lay in bed, crying herself to sleep. He was sleeping peacefully in the next room while she was breaking apart.
She was no longer the same person with that amused smile.
She started questioning herself. Most of the time, she blamed herself. But when she went back to that moment, she realized something: he never truly loved her—he fell in love with her potential.
All the reasons he once gave for loving her had faded over the years. Some were lost because of him, others because she outgrew them.
What happens when the reasons you fell in love with someone no longer exist?
If you need a reason to love someone, is it really love?
True love doesn’t need reasons.
If you truly love someone, you won’t be able to explain why.
It’s something we should all ask ourselves:
Do we love someone, or do we love their potential?
